Dear Readers

Greetings from myinvestmentideas.com.

I am getting several emails asking for investment advices on Suresh@myinvestmentideas.com. While I would be responding them individually, these would not reach other readers. I am getting questions from people which are general in nature and I am trying to answer the same questions to several investors. To avoid this, I am taking new initiative which would help readers. This is “Suggest a topic” option on the menu bar. If you have any topic which is not covered here, you can leave a comment with little detailed description on what you are looking for which you could not find on this website. I would start publishing the articles based on these topics as early as possible.

Thanks Manju Fernandes from Dubai who is asking for NRI investment advices and Ravi Gupta who is asking to write about best demat accounts in terms of low charges. I am starting this topic with these two.

Regards

Suresh KP

It would be great if you could provide your pointers in crypto currency investments. From various sources, I understand the volatility aspect. But if still someone decides to go ahead, what are the options available for Indian investors ? Fees charged by India and Foreign exchanges? Legality of using foreign exchanges? Security risks involved.

Muthoot Capital Fixed Deposit s. They offer 7.75 percent interest and are rated A plus Stable. Previously, one had to have Kerala address to avail this FD, but today, after talking to a representative from the Company, I came to know that they are now offering FDs pan India. 43. Suresh,

A unique and innovative concept which is the brainchild of Dhaval Solani is Creditbulls Investments. The idea is that those who do not know how to buy and sell stocks can utilise the experience and expertise of those who do. And can receive the highest returns possible in India on FDs . The reviews of their existing customers are excellent. Recently there was an article about this company on Outlook India. Your review on this company would be a great boon to your visitors especially retired persons and senior citizens who could invest a small amount and verify for themselves. Looking forward to your review.

    Best regards,

    Manoj

Please write for DHFL fixed depositor and NCD holders.

What form FD depositor need to fill and what form NCD holder to fill for Insolvency Resolution Process.

    What they need to do?

    1. Hello roji, There are only 3 steps 1) Open Demat account. If you already have one, skip to next 2) Read IPO analysis and pick-up good IPO 3) Login to your demat and trading account and place order. When you do this, you may need to have money in bank account (approx Rs 15,000), select the share price (mostly it would be higher price band) and the Qty. If you are retail investor, you cannot invest more than Rs 2 Lakhs to get allotment in IPO.

It is RBI regulated and seems like a good diversification opportunity for retail investors who are looking to generate monthly passive income with better yields and no market linked volatility. There are few RBI recognised NBFCs offering this asset class. While credit risk exists, large scale diversification enables good risk mitigation as well for investors. Thanks.

I invested rs 2000 per month in Tata Aig whole life midcap opportunity in ULIP since
Jan 2011. Current profit is 88% of investment or 15% yearly return. Now agent saying do partial profit or withdraw from scheme. Kindly suggest what to do. Also he suggested to invest now in kotak smartlife yearly 100000 for 8 years with reinvest option. Will get decent return.

    1. Hello Rahul, You made one mistake of investing in high charged ULIP. Now don’t make another mistake. First try to exit from such ULIP. If you still want to continue for another ULIP, look for zero charges / low charges ULIP plan and invest. Alternatively you can invest in other investment options like mutual funds or bank FDs. Don’t burn your fingers one more time by going what agent says

    DEAR SIR,

    GREETINGS OF THE DAY.

MYSELF VINAY,NOWADAYS MOST OF THE PEOPLE ARE SAYING THAT IT WOULD BE BETTER TO BUY PURE TERM INSURANCE AND AT THE SAME TIME GOOD TO INVEST IN MUTUAL FUNDS VIA SIP OR STP. WHICH MEANS WE ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO MIX INSURANCE WITH INVESTMENT.

I HAVE PAID 3 FULL YEARS PREMIUM OF ,
    JEEVAN ANAND
    NEW ENDOWMENT
    CHILDRENS MONEY BACK POLICY

BOUGHT FOR 25+ YEARS TERM. IN THIS SITUATION HOW CAN I POSSIBLE MAKE EXIT FROM THESE TRADITIONAL POLICY…?

AND IF I STOP PAYING REST OF THE YEAR PREMIUM WILL I GET ATLEAST PAID PREMIUM PLUS LEAST 6% INTEREST FOR THE YEARS WHICH I KEPT IN LIC…?

    1. Hello, you need to approach LIC branch to know how much returns you may get. It would be approx 5% to 6%. But before that consider a good term insurance plan and then proceed to LIC to surrender the policies.

I am looking for top 5 best balanced Mutual Funds for investment (more than 5 lack) for duration of around 10 to 15 years. On internet, I can see there are many suggestions on equaty Mutual Funds, but very few suggestions for balanced Mutual Funds. Your expert review can help people like me to select perfect Mutual Funds.

  133. I would like to know about Reliance Nivesh Lakshya Fund which was launched recently. Many are suggesting that if one has surplus amount with low risk taking capability this is a much superior product in debt category. How is this different than any long term debt fund? What are pros and cons? Say if one want to exit before 25 years but with interest rates increasing. How to make an informed planned exit even in a long duration scenario?

    1. Hi Nitin, This is close ended fund for 3 years which invests in diversified portfolio of stocks. For such investment objective funds, you should invest in open ended schemes as we do not know how stock markets would perform in 3 years period.

  134. Can you pls compare investment in real estate vs taking house on rent. Especially does it make sense to go for a second or third real estate investment. What are the tax benefits vis-a-vis rented property?

  138. I suggest you write an article about RuPay Debit & Credit Cards being issued by various banks. You may be aware that it is home grown payment system competing with the likes of Visa & Master Card. People, mainly those in the cities are not aware that they can do a lot of good for the country by opting for RuPay cards. If a writer like you, who has a lot of following writes about RuPay Cards it will certainly help.

  139. Hi Suresh, can you write a detailed plan, for someone who is at a fulltime work and wishes to TRADE for a living? I mean, how to systematically plan and START TRADING (DAY or Delivery method or BOTH), so that a fix set of monthly / quarterly income can be met, which can then replace the fulltime work / salary? I am pretty sure, there are many folks out there, who are building their knowledge on TRADING, but need proper guidance on how to go about this, systematically, Step-by-Step. Thanking you in advance.

  142. Hi Suresh,

Thanks a lot for providing time to time information on different investment options. I am looking to buy Kosamattam Finance Limited bonds. Could you please write an article on Kosamattam Finance Limited bonds.

    Thanks,
    Saikat

    1. Hi Saikat, I already wrote Kosamattam finance NCD issue last month which is still open currently. There is no new NCD of Kosamattam other than that.

  143. Please consider putting your thoughts on pros and cons of buying annunity and immediate/deferred annunity plans.  Please review HDFC Life Pension Guaranteed Plan and whether it makes sense to lock down interest rates by buying the plan at an early age.

  144. Hello Sir,

Request to share your thoughts on Stocks that can be considered Post budget 2018.

    Thanks

  145. Hi Suresh,

First of all I would like to thank you for your invaluable advises and service to the globe with appropriate information at appropriate time.

I have a suggestion for “Suggest a topic” initiative. I am not sure if you have published such an article as I could not find it in the last 3+ years since when I have been reading your blogs.

    It is “various retirement plans”.
As you are aware, especially in the private sector and in this IT world, people are behind luxuries, comforts and spending hefty amounts towards schools fees, movies, restaurants, trips etc.., while knowing the fact that there is no income after retirement.

So with your matured command over the money markets, request you to shed light on this topic and suggest us the suitable plans as per the amount we can spare so that one’s life becomes independent even after retirement.

    Regards,
    Prashanth

  146. Hi Suresh,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on all financial aids scatter for all levels of investors or viewers.

I need your inputs regarding long term savings for my kid. I would like to save whatever free money i have for my child’s future. I need this money when my kid reaches her age of 25-30. Currently my kid is 7 years old.

I already opted for Sukanya Samrudi Yojana. I need any other options with better returns with no risks. I hope FDs are not better options.

Can you please suggest better options for my requirements.

    Thanks,
    Uday

    1. Hi Uday, good to hear about you. Since your son is 7 years old and you need money only after he reaches 25 years, you still have 18 years time frame which is very good time to invest in long term investment options. You should try for mutual funds. Since you are new, you can start with balanced mutual funds which are low risk compared with other equity funds. You can invest in 2 funds like HDFC Balanced fund, Tata Balanced fund, ICICI balanced fund etc., to start. Later you can check diversified funds or large cap funds and invest as low as Rs 500 per month. All the best and convey my wishes to your kid for his bright future

  147. Hi Sureshji,

Can you please write an article on ‘Taxability of MFs’ covering STCG/LTCG for Equity vs debt funds. The article may also cover, how to know capital gains statement, and how to fill the capital gains in the ITR form while filing. As we are nearing end of FY17-18, this will help many readers like me.

    Thanks,

  148. Hi Suresh,

I am planning to invest in Close-ended equities in the following funds

ICICI Value Fund – Series 19 Cumulative for 1262 days

ICICI Value Fund – Series 20 Cumulative for 1210 days

Would you recommend to invest in the above funds as i have been already investing 25k pm in Mutual Funds.

    1. These are close ended funds. Why you want to invest in closed ended funds? What happens if stock market goes down during that period. Your fund manager would not have any choice except to sell at loss and come out. Hence I always prefer to invest in open ended funds unless there is some uniqueness in that fund

      1. Thanks for your reply !! Actually, one of the investors suggested me to invest , but i was in a dilemma.

Is it feasible to stay invested in NPS ? I have nominated in both Tier 1 and Tier 2 Auto aggressive category but was really confused on the benefits/merits of staying invested in NPS until retirement. Please suggest

  153. Hello Suresh, could you please publish your view on  market linked debentures.

    Thanks in advance.

  154. Which is better – growth or dividend reinvestment?
I had recently invested a large sum of money in equity mutual funds and had to redeem due to a lucrative business proposition. I understand that investments in equity mutual funds are for a long term but isn’t dividend reinvestment a better option considering that one can withdraw investment amount (capital amount) from equity mutual fund in less than a year leaving the gained units in the folio which would mean that there would be no capital gains tax.
Isn’t it a more convenient option for people who may need money at any point in time?
Also isn’t it better option if one wants to withdraw from a not so well performing fund if the investments made in that fund is less than a year old?

Are the tax implications for growth and dividend reinvestment plans different from each other?

  156. Hi Suresh,

Me and my husband both have insured ourselves with term plans. But we might both plan for our higher studies or other career path in may be another 8-9years and may not be in a position to keep paying premiums for our policies. My question is what are the limited premium paying term plans in the market? Can we convert our existing policies wherein we pay the premium for another 25 years to 10 year premium paying plan? As i understand the premium would be quite high but do we get any other bonuses for such plans? We are not looking for tax advantages here as we invest in other ways to claim deduction under 80C and term plans are purely for insuring our lives.

  157. Hi suresh, such a best and solid info im getting online via this blog. Thank you man.
Shall we know about this plan “ICICI Prudential Elite Life Super”.?

An icici agent urging me for this plan to invest of 1L or 2Lakhs/yearly. They promising will get atleast 10-14% of returns yearly. But while i read many reviews online about this , there are lot of FMC charges & locks which are untold by those agents. For your info : visit to iciciprulife.com/ulip-plans/elite-life-super-plan.html. have a look on pages 25,26 & 35. Seems they deducting lot of money from my premiums & end up giving me 10-14% from my remaining premium. haha – I feel laughter&laughter..

  175. Hi Suresh,

Its indeed a fantastic blog and the work you aree doing.

I wanted your opinion on the best Index Fund. As Warren Buffet puts it, for investors who dont have the time and skills to invest, best place to put money is into an Index Fund. Hence, want your opinion on which funds are the best Index Funds.

Also came across this specific NFO called DSPBR Equal 50 Nifty Fund where the Fund Manager tries to best the Nifty 50 benchmark index by allocating monies not in the same ratio as market cap of Nifty but more weightage in smaller stocks of Nifty which are growing more than the biggies which are growing more stable.

Please let me know your overall thoughts and help us shortlist the best Index Fund for a 7-8 year market cycle. I look forward to your insights to help passive investors who do not have the time and skills for market but can find a most reliable Index fund which covers up for the lack of knowledge/skills/time/money.

    Thanks in Advance.

  198. Hi Suresh,

I have been reading your articles and I am very happy to see your unbiased opinion on various topics. My particular are of interest is investing in Mutual Funds (SIP). I skimmed through the topics, but I couldn't find a topic on how to start investing in MUtual Funds under SIP.

I am planning to invest 10K per month for a long term (say 7 to 10 years). I am confortabel in taking up high-risk high-returns category in SIP investment.

Could you please suggest me how I should distribute my 10K.

I see investment portals like ProserX and OROEALTH. While ProsperX provides free consulatation with their Financial Experts and investors are supposed to invest in regular plans; whereas OROWEALTH is artificial intellegence based and allows investors to invest in Direct funds (I think tere are some charges involved). Which one would be ideal for a beginne like me who would like to stay invested for 7 – to – 10 years.

    Awaiting your valuable advice!

    Thanks,

    Prashant

  226. HI,

I am 22yrs old and save around 14k a month. I am new to Mutual Funds with a horizon of 4-5 Years.

On Jan'17 I have invested 10K each in Franklin India Flexi Cap Fund, Templeton India Equity Income Fund and Birla SL Top 100 Fund all Dividend-Reinvestment option

I have invested in these schemes through an agent. But now I want to invest of my own. What would be better, to invest directly through AMC website or through MFU?

I think going for lumsum amount is better than SIP (Please help me with a good reason to defend this)

Currently I was thinking of investing in Franklin India Smaller companies fund (10k) and HDFC Mid-Cap Opportunities Fund (10k)

I was thinking of opting for Dividend-Reinvestment Option. Will this be a good option ?

Please suggest me if my portfolio is correct. What more funds should I add?

    1. I am not an expert on this subject but giving my opinions based on my experience. Its been many days that you posted it but felt like writing.

SIP is the best option : We can’t really time the market. Moreover with markets at peak high now it is better to go for SIPs than lump sum. I agree there are chances of getting higher profits if you take lump sum route at proper timing and at time same time there are also equivalent chances of getting doomed. But who knows when is that.

MFU seems to be a very good initiative. Its not a good reporting tool as of now but I hope they will improve over a period. Since you are planning to invest in 3 different fund houses, this will make ur life easy. The pain point I see in MFU is SIP, for that we need to submit payeezz form and it takes 1-2 months to get you into action. I had one rejection because of missing out one field in the form. This I got to know after 1.5 months. The only workaround is STP which is possible only when you have lump sum and ready to invest in liquid/short term funds.
Whereas if you go through AMCs, we can register SIPs easily and add that payee using URN in our bank account as long as you are done with KYC with proper bank details linked to it.

And dude its a good thought to avoid agent and do it on your own (direct plan). Very recently I saw a very good article which was detailing on how the agents are benefiting on this regular plan commissions. And you believe it or not it was huge !!!!

  227. MY FRIEND WANTS TO INVEST RS.70 LAKHS FOR 1 YEAR FOR SOME CONTINGENCY? HE DOES NOT KNOW WHETHER IT WILL HAPPEN. IT SHOULD BE POSSIBLE TO WITHDRAW THE AMOUNT WHENEVER HE WANTS. 228. Can you explain how good is ICICI PRU Elite Wealth II ?

Let me brief it for you. Its a ULIP. Comprises of 4 equity ,2 debt and 1  income. We can switch among them whenever we want free of charge. 5 Years of payment with 5Lakhs each year. Policy term will be 10years+. Their selling point is one of the equities ICICI Maximizer fund V which is giving good returns as per current market. We dont get this to invest through any of the direct platforms( like SIP). I see lot of charges in it.One of them is ICICI Blue Chip which I am really interested in.

I want to know if this ULIP is really good or its better to go through SIP/Lumpsum and avoid those charges. For one premium of 5Lakhs, the charges are comingg to 18K around.

  250. Hi,

I am your blog’s regular reader. I have a really concerning question about investing and hope to seek help from you.
I have been investing in Mid and Small cap funds through SIP . The investment period is for 3 to 5 years. However, now as each day market is crashing and the Mid and Small cap funds are the worst hits…I am having a fear of loosing my money invested including profits..:|

Should I still continue to invest through SIP or should I withdraw?

    Please help.

    Thank You.

    1. Rohan, As I always indicated, invest in mutual funds for long term of 8-10 years. Worst case you can invest for atleast 5 years if you would like to take risk. Investment for 3-5 years, you may not get good returns. Keep investing more money during market corrections so that you can benefit more.

Many analyst study stock performance using charts, which indicate that stock’s trend (i.e upward or downward). For this, different parameters which are used like CCI, Moving average of last 200 or 50 days etc. You can consider this for your next article.

  261. Hello,

I saw your post about wealth pack expense tracking application. Can you suggest a good application or website where we can record our investments. As we have multiple investments of different kind tenure and payout methods its getting difficult to track that. It must have all the options like mutual fund, stock, LIC, Bank FD, PO RD & NSC, Gold. Like that what ever investment a common man do. Due dates, payout dates etc will be added advantage.

In one sentence my question is how can we track our multiple investments efficiently.

  262. Dear Mr.Suresh, Thank you very much for enlighting us with various investment options. I am low risk investor. Basically I believe that insurance plans to be considered for child education or for my children marriage. I know that you keep recommending us to take Term Plans and invest balance in MF’s. But I want to go for children investment plans. Can you pls elaborate some of the best children investment plans available in India? Pls help me. I know you don’t like it, but pls pls pls….

  263. Earlier you used to review SME IPO , now since last so many days you are not reviewing SME IPO, you are requested to published review of SME IPO also.

  264. Hi Suresh,

I always enjoy reading your articles which are you write in a language that everybody can understand easily.

I would like to suggest two topics you should cover in your articles:

    1. How many mutual funds one should select to invest as a SIP?
I mean here, is it good to invest in minimum number of SIP or we can have more numbers.
Like if I want to invest 50K per month in the SIP, how many MF should I invest (in 5, 10, etc)

    2. NFO or New Fund Offer : Investment in NFO and risks

Looking forward for your articles on these topics in near future.

  266. Dear Suresh,

I accidentally came across your website while I was searching for some Sector Mutual funds. I was just amazed to see the articles you have written MF. Its indeed a plethora of knowledge. Thanks for sharing what I was exactly looking for.

I have couple of questions regading MF.

    1. Which MF one should buy consideing the upcoming GST implementation? Which sectors you feel will benefited and will provide good returns? I feel logistics,Transportation, cement would be real gainers.

    2. Will Rafael deal inpact our market? Will it support Make in India initiative? If yes, which companies are part of it , any MF regarding it?

Thanks and look forward to your reply.

    Regards,
    Aaditya

  267. Dear Mr. Suresh,

I have been actively following your website for quite a few years now. I must admit that it is your website that inspired me to invest in MFs and shares. However, over a course of time, I felt that shares might not be my cup of tea. So, at present I only invest on MFs.

I also helped three of my friends in investing in MFs who were reluctant in the begning. I do not claim myself as an expert but yes, I do have a knowledge base about investing and the credit goes to you and your website.

I also started a Term Insurance after I consulted your advice on insurance.

I invest in MFs in direct mode only and hence there is no financial advisor of mine. Would you please evaluate my portfolio ? I would really aprreciate your evaluation and any suggestions that you may have.

    6. ICICI PRU LONG TERM GILT – 1500/-
    7. ICICI PRU LONG TERM – 1000/-
    8. BSL DYNAMIC BOND – 1000/-

All the above funds are in "per month" basis. Below are the lumpsums:-

    9. RELIANCE PHARMA
    10. BSL MNC
    11. UTI FOCUSED EQUITY SERIES-I (1100 DAYS)

I want to put another 4000/- per month in SIP mode. Could you please suggest some funds? I have a time horizon of 15-20 years. I don't intend to touch the first 5 funds for another 15 years, am I right in thinking so?

    Thank you

    Regards

    Tathagata

    1. Hi Misra, you are investing in good funds except for HDFC Top 200. You can exit this now and invest in better funds. regd another 4K which you want to invest, consider investing in Birla SL Frontline equity fund and ICICI pru top 100 fund. Regd your question about first 5 funds, yes these are in large cap segment, you can hold it for 10-15 years.

  268. Hi,

will there be any benefits when compared to an individual plan.

If i manage to get  a group of 50(approx) what are the best life or health cover we can go for?

Is there any investment plans best suited for such group.

    Please enlighte us.

  269. I am considering to buy Max life term insurance. I want to know the impact to individual who are already owning policy or to new policy buyers post merger with HDFC life. Can you please comment on this please.

  270. Dear Suresh,

I am following your website from long time. Mostly every working day I go through your website. But just got a felling that your website is concerned more about current market and current financial activity. But personal finance and wealth creation is much more than current few share market activity. The topic you cover is just current. If you look that article after some time it will have less value or outdated. Current activity is like news but financial literacy is something different. It has more ever green principle base value. If you can add some article on long term investing, Goal base investing, Saving, and more deep knowledge on personal finance as its not only about the share market it is about overall development.

    Some books on the topic
Your Money or Your Life by Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez
The Richest Man in Babylon by George Clason
    The Millionaire Next Door
The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham
    The Automatic Millionaire
Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T Harv Eker

and last your response to the mail will be appreciated

  273. Hi Suresh,

Could you share more details about Stock lending schemes. I heard we can earn money for the long term holding stocks that has been sitting idle in our demat account. For this facility, what we needs to do from our end?

  274. Hi Suresh,

I am Bhushan Kubde from Doha Qatar.

I would like to suggest a topic What is NFO and Risk Involved in this. Also please include if NRI can invest in it.

    1. Dear Bhushan,

      Below are some info

Why not to invest in New Fund Offer(NFO)?

Since NFO’s are opportunistic in nature, many investment advisers and financial planners suggest to stay away from these funds. So, is it really risky to invest into NFO? Let’s find out:-

      1. No proven track record

Since NFO’s are launched with a new idea or a theme/sector it is very difficult to analyse the future of the fund. One can always find a similar kind of fund already running in the market which has a rating from the experts and where qualitative/quantitative analysis can be done on the basis of its past record, which cannot be done in case of NFO.

      2. It is not cheaper than its other peer funds

Many investor thinks that NFO’s are available at cheap price compared to other ongoing schemes, which is totally wrong. Suppose an investor invests Rs. 10,000 in an NFO at NAV of Rs.10 and invests the same amount into an ongoing scheme whose NAV is Rs.20. Now the growth of the NAV in both the schemes depends upon the kind of portfolio they holds. Here the percentage growth of the NAV is important rather than the value of NAV. So there is no point in investing in a fund which has a lower NAV.

      3. Comes with high initial expenses

The marketing charges and other initial expenses are high in case of NFO’s. These expenses are capped to a certain percentage and are managed out of the NAV over the period and hence are responsible for the lesser return. So it’s better to avoid new funds as charges are high.

      4. Limited Diversification

Generally NFO’s are sector specific (normally at the top of bull market) or have focus on certain category like Mid cap, small cap. People are advised to invest with a proper diversification because if one sector does not perform the returns are compensated by another sector and proper balance is maintained. So it is better to read the investment objective of the NFO before investing and avoid those which have limited scope of diversification. Your portfolio should be designed based on your goals……

      5. NFO are not exactly like IPO’s

Many people are of the view that there is no difference between NFO and IPO which is not true. In NFO the NAV is fixed at Rs. 10 per unit and is not affected due to the demand or some other factors. While in IPO the listing price depends on the demand and expectation of the market with the company. So the price may fall or rise while listing. So please remember the growth of NAV in mutual funds only depends upon the growth of the underlying securities.

Please remember Mutual Fund companies launch different types of NFO to increase their AUM and to complete their bundle of products, to attract different kind of investors and to fulfill their needs. So this does not mean that every NFO will suit your profile. Sometimes a plain equity or balanced scheme will serve your purpose. So it’s better to avoid NFO and if required you can always check the performance of the other schemes already available in the market.

If you want to invest then follow below thread which Suresh recently posted.

  275. Hi Suresh

Your contribution to the investors is commendable.

In view of changing Indian economic scenario (under various sectors),  you may consider to post one/two scrips in a month for short ro medium term investment as many investors will have less patience.

In one word my question is how can we track our multiple investments efficiently.

  277. Hi Suresh, I have come across this so called peer to peer lending, with some Indian platforms/websites coming up for the same. Can you please let me know your view on the same if it can be used as one of the investments for better returns, may be a small investement to start with. Thank You.

  281. Can u detail the benefits and features of ICICI Pru life Saving Suraksha Plan. How is the market trend and benefits we reap from it

  282. Dear Sir,
Which way the markets are headed ? The editor and publisher of the Gloom, Boom & Doom Report Marc Faber on Monday on CNBC’s “Trading Nation” said that stocks are likely to endure a gut-wrenching drop that would rival the greatest crashes in stock market history.
Andrew Holland of Ambit Capital told CNBC-TV18’s Sonia Shenoy and Anuj Singhal in an interview that “Something in the bond or currency market will blow up. The liquidity [sloshing around in markets] will come off at some point but I am not sure when,”
The Nifty on 9th August 2016 formed the common candlestick chart pattern ‘hanging man’, a development that could signal the end of the upside trend, at least for the short term.
Can you please tells what do you think of the stock markets and where it is headed going forward.

  283. Hi,

I have read few articles regarding choosing best SIP date for Mutual Funds, in context of anticipating higher returns.
I will appreciate if you could throw some light on “Best SIP Date” and share your inputs.

    Thanks.

  284. I have been investing in mutual funds since 2001. In these years I have seen that we usually stick with funds that have done well over 10/5/3 years but then they start losing steam for e.g. IDFC Premier Equity Fund.
Also if you look at ELSS, DSP BlackRock Tax Saver Fund has started to perform better in the last 1 year. Quantum Tax Saving Fund has also performed well but no one is talking about it because the Company does not follow the distributor route.
How does one identify these upcoming funds which would give better returns than the established names because past performance of the funds are no guarantee that they would do well in the future.
Also suggest whether I should invest in Quantum Tax Saving Fund.

  285. I really appreciate the work you are doing, guiding lay men like me in the stock market. I am looking out for a broker who is Reliable, Reasonable and Responsive with whom I can open an account. I have never tried F&O so far, can you please guide how exactly it works and the pros & cons of F&O.

I am generaly negative about close ended schemes as they provide limited returns. If you are low risk taker, you can invest in them. Otherwise there are better debt income funds to invest. 364. Sir,
You recommended not to subscribe to cawasji behramji SME IPO. The scrip has provided 100% returns. You have been way off.
    ShareDekho.com

    1. Hi Sanjay, I give a full review. I indicated this IPO is good, however overpriced. There are many IPO’s where I said NO, but they moved high either due to investor sentiment or brokers manipulation. You should not forget cases wehre investors investd in such IPO’s and later there are no buyers.

      1. I understand. However, if you observe all IPOs which have a unique business model- be it the likes of SH Kelkar, Oyeee Media or Cawasji Behramji- have provided good returns, or maybe its just coincidence.

        1. Sanjay, I mainly look from investor point of view. I really do not know how many are getting benefitted from SME IPO’s. There are several comments / emails to me stating they are unable to sell their SME shares as there are no buyers. Also there are a few articles in leading websites indicating that promoters of such SME IPO’s are doing money laundering to divert their money. It is hard to take this stand, but I have decided not to analyse SME IPO’s anymore

          1. sir all your sme recommendation was just perfect. please continue to give review. please suggest me on Sri Krishna Constructions BSE SME IPO .

Also please advise about what kind of bank accounts we need to have. Presently I’m having a NRE SB account. I’m planning to invest in sip but can’t do so because my NRE acc doesn’t allow any credits within India.

Tried a lot to search online about various options but still unclear about which to choose. I’m following your blog since last one and half year and lot of your articles are very informative. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us all. Awaiting your reply….!!!

  378. Sir,
Is it possible to strip Mutual Funds monthly SIP Installment from another Mutual Fund? I know such stripping is possible between different UTI Mutual Funds. But is it possible to strip a Mutual fund SIP installment, say of, Franklin India Opportunities Fund SIP Installment coming from selling units of SBI Blue Chip Fund?
    Please Reply.

    1. Sanjay, You cannot do STP across mutual fund house schemes. Alternative method is do SWP in scheme where you want to come out and do SIP 3 days after that in new scheme where you want to invest.

      1. Sir,
I did not understand your reply, could you please explain in layman’s terms with an example.
        Thanks.

Can you please advise on recent SREI Infra Ltd, Secured NCD issue offering 11% interest. I am interested to invest in this. I am expecting an article regarding this. Thanks in advance

  383. Hi Suresh
We have always been tempted by these holiday companies like Club Mahindra, Country club, RCE and many other. As a family yes, most of us are interested in going for holidays. But from a financial perspective does it make sense to sign up for 3-5 lacs? They claim we should look at it for a 25 years horizon. Does this make sense for an investment. And as such there are lot of issues reported on the web when the members try to book these holidays after taking up a membership. What they claim while selling these holidays are really not given after we take up the membership.
I request you to kindly do a compare and math and let us know if this investment is worth it.
Looking forward to your article as always.
    Thanks
    Rajesh

  390. Hi,

Many thanks for sharing the valuable info.I really have a tough question that is puzzling me from past 4 years. Its related to Apartment flat/Individual house.I am seeing many people purchasing Flats of worth 30-40 Lakhs with bank loans easily. However I am sure if they take 25Lakhs as loan (remaining 15 Lakhs their own amount) for period of 25 Years they have to pay 25K per month, which seems to be almost double. Even then I am seeing many people purchasing flats.Even though they have cleared the due after 25Years which is their retirement age, the Apartment life time is also finished and hence it has to be re-constructed/value completely depreciated. Is this correct idea to purchase Apartment flat…? If so can you please suggest me why so.

Eagerly waiting for an answer on this.

    Thanks,

  412. Dear Suresh,

First, I find your portal and comments very useful. Thank you very much for the great effort.

I am being requested by YES Bank Manager to invest in LIFE PERFECT PARTNER PLUS from MAX Life policy. I find this as only policy through which I can insure my 1 yr old girl. How good is the policy and reliable is the insurance company? Do you have alternative through which I can insure my 1 yr old girl?

    Sincerely,
    Anand

  417. Hi Suresh,

We are waiting for your valuable analysis on recently launched NFO, Birla Sun Lige Manufacturing Fund. Should we invest?

  418. Hi Suresh,

One more suggestion. Today everything is going online.Even Insurance companies are slowly graduating to a online sales model. A lot of changes are happening fast. How about an article where you look at the Insurance landscape from a bird’s eye view, take a 5-10 year perspective and give your opinion on how the sector will be in future? I think it would provide a lot of insights to your readers.

    Regards,

    Sugeesh Sugathan

  419. Hi Suresh,

    Greetings!!

Can you write a review and write an article on two health insurance plans:-

  422. Hi, thanks for writing such wonderful blogs. I follow them regularly. My query is, could you let me know what are the best investment options to invest a lump sum of around 30-35 lakhs as my uncle recently sold his old house and is with liquid cash and looking to invest. Thanks.

I Want to take a term insurance plan for 50lakhs.. in lic e term plan around 6500rs per annum premium..
can u tell if the above are ok?? and can u suggest me an health insurance policy for single life

    1. You are investing in good funds. Just check that you are investing tax saving funds for 80C and it is sufficient. Beyond this you should invest in mid cap funds and large cap equity funds. At your age, you can invest for 15-20 years and enjoy good returns. All the best and happy new year to you and your family.

  426. Hi Suresh,

Please suggest me in obtaining a Home loan.

Actually i contacted few banks and i found Axis is good options. They are offering the HL with 2 offers as :

Offer 1. If i take HL 15-20 years the last year EMI will be waived off

Offer 2. If i pay the lump sum( More than Rs. 50000, can deposit number of times in the loan tenure ) amount they will deduct the amount from the principal and they will calculate the interest rate for remaining principal amount.

When I took the advise from few of my friends ; They are suggesting that:

    1. I can bargain on interest as our company is one of the loyal customers for AXIS Bank.

    2. Opt only for Fixed Interest rate for entire tenure than floating or partially fixed interest rate( First 1-2 years).

After discussing with Axis bank they are ok with 2 options.

So, kindly suggest me which one is better and if you can suggest any better idea other than this it will be helpful.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Venugopal

    1. Schemes are good, however it depends on what interest rate they are charging. Currently HL are available 10% to 10.5%. Considering fixed rate for initial period and later on floating would be good option.

  427. Hi,

I recently started reading you blog and found very useful. I am new to MF world too.

my suggestion on a new topic is – Managing Multiple funds for dummies 🙂
he is why i fee its necessary. I am sure there will be lot more like me.

Based on multiple rating sites and blogs, i have selected few funds. 2 buckets.
One on my name ans another on my wife’s name.
All through SIP of Rs. 2000/month. Direct and Growth plans

    Bucket 1:

    ICICI pru focused bluechip Institutional
    HDFC Mid-Cap Opportunities Fund
    Quantum Long Term equity
    Franklin India High Growth
    Franklin India Smaller Companies Fund

    Bucket 2:
    HDFC top 200
    Mirae Asset India Opportunities Fund

I have stated few already and planning to start from next month. I am sure i will be adding 1 small cap or a balanced fund or infra or an international fund some time after 1st half of 2015. which i have not decided yet.

But the problem now is that some of my close friends warning me that i have selected too many funds and it would be problem to manage at some point.

I am 31 & know that i am already late to catch the market train, so i have selected above funds.

Now my Question is about managing multiple funds. Is there a better way to manage all these funds.
I plan is to keep investing for at least 5 years. But is there any problem if we want to redeem funds in un-fore seen situations.
I am not sure if i heard is correct or not. Is converting all these funds into demat format a good option? If yes which is the easiest way? probably free demat/online trading account type?

One last question, off the topic. are my both portfolios looks ok? Do you suggest any change or addition. Please suggest.

  428. Hi Suresh,

Could you please suggest a best Health insurance policy where that could serve the Family and Individuals, which also useful for Tax benefits under Section 80D.

  430. Sir, In your Top rated Corporate FD Interest Rates article, regarding TDS, if Interest is less than Rs.5000-00 No and if Interest is more than Rs.5000-00 TDS will be ducted on entire interest amount. To avoid this, we can submit F.15G/H to the company. Can we submit like that. So, many banks are accepting F.15/G and not deducting the TDS on interest.
