What are the premiums in this Maternity focused health insurance plan?
- The premium for a 3 year policy for 18-45 years of age for Rs 3 Lakhs for a family member of 2 works out to be Rs 55,445
- The premium for a 3 year policy for 18-45 years of age for Rs 3 Lakhs for an Individual Adult Female works out to be Rs 49,241
- The premium for a 3 year policy for 18-45 years of age for Rs 5 Lakhs for a family member of 2 works out to be Rs 74,773
- The premium for a 3 year policy for 18-45 years of age for Rs 5 Lakhs for an Individual Adult Female works out to be Rs 67,506
- If you observe, premium in this health insurance plan is very high. For e.g. if you consider other health insurance policies like Max Bupa for a 35 years age for Rs 3 Lakhs, it would come to Rs 7,000 (approx). For 3 years, it would be approx Rs 21,000. Even for family floater policy for 2 members for 3 years works out to be Rs 30,000 as premium charges. Hence premium is high in this plan. For a maternity benefit of Rs 35,000 (Rs 3 Lakh sum assured) or Rs 50,000 (Rs 5 Lakh sum assured), majority is anyway charged through high premium.

Should you opt for this Religare Joy Health Plan?
I am not excited by such health insurance plan. No doubt this is a unique health insurance plan which covers maternity benefits and new born baby expenses till 90 days. However premium charged is very high. Unless the individual is married or planning to get married and would go on the family way in next 3 years, this health insurance plan is not beneficial. Alternatively, you can choose for other better health insurance plans from Max Bupa, Apollo Munich etc. which comes out with low premiums. Balance amount you can save and utilize for maternity expenses (which may not cover completely).

Hi,
This is a well documented review. I have few questions or you may say doubts regarding this plan.
1. If a female is 3 months pregnant and she goes for this plan of sum insured 3 lakhs, can she claim the above-said benefits after waiting period of 9 months that means will raise a claim only after 12 months or 1 year of date of pregnancy?
2. The above-said premium for the sum insured of 3 lakhs for single female adult is 49,421. Is this a single premium for the whole three year period or you have to pay 49,421 annually for three years?

The insurance cover of INR 50,000 is just for delivery or it is inclusive of pre and post hospitalisation charges too?
For e.g. say
10 days of hospitalisation for delivery of baby@ INR 3,000/ day = INR 30,000
Cost of deliver inclusive of delivery room, equipment, etc. = INR 100,000
Medicine cost pre and post delivery = INR 40,000
so, will the entire 1.7 lakh be clubbed as expennses under maternity and only 50,000 be refunded or 30,000 of hospitalization charge, 40,000 of medicinne cost etc. be considered under hospitalization and pre-post expense separately? KIndly shed light
Even the minimum sum assured seems little too high. Unless in a metro, delivery related costs won’t be that high.
What is meant by 9 month waiting period. If the baby is born in 10th month or in 12th month after taking policy. will the expenses be covered.
Vijay
Yes Vijay. Here one cannot take policy after a women has become pregnant. Hence this 9 month waiting period. Afte taking policy, women becomes pregnant, she would give birth to child in 10th month or later, hence it is covered.
Well said – good review. Thanks for your inputs!
