As our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi is emphasizing high on the digitization, most of the banks are launching their mobile apps to facilitate their customers to transact. What is SBI Buddy App?
SBI Buddy App is developed by SBI for making payments through mobile with unique features. It is a semi-closed pre-paid wallet which can be used to send or receive money transfers from other wallet users and bank account any time anywhere. It is the first Indian mobile wallet Application that is available in 13 languages. Currently, it is a free application. The bank is not charging anything for registering on this app. Only the internet charges will apply as the app uses internet connection to operate.
This mobile app is capable of doing many a functions like sending money, online merchant payments, viewing the bank statement, recharge of prepaid mobile phones and DTH, paying the bills, booking movie tickets etc.
The recharge and Bill Pay Option enables you to recharge your mobile or DTH accounts or pay your utility bills using the wallet balance.
How to download SBI Buddy Mobile app?
Depending upon the mobile, one uses, they can visit the Apple App store or Google Play Store and search for State Bank Buddy. There are various options like SBI app download for android, SBI buddy for windows phone etc., You can click on download the app. Else, give a missed call on 09021122222 and you will receive a link through SMS to download this app. Once downloaded, you need to sign up in this app.
What is the process of signing up for SBI Buddy?
You can register yourself for the SBI Buddy in two ways-
1) Sign up using the face book username and password
If you use this option, you will be directed to the authentication page of the Face book Connect Service. Face book username and password is to be entered and if it is pre-integrated, then you will be asked to allow permission to access the credentials to proceed with sign up for the use of mobile wallet. After successful validation by Face book Connect Service, the mobile number needs to be provided.
2) Simple sign up
If you opt for simple sign up, mobile number and email address has to be filled mandatorily.
You need to set up Pin for accessing mwallet service. You will be sent a welcome message with OTP (One Time Pin) on the provided mobile number and email address too. You are required to enter the OTP and select a question from the dropdown box, type the answer and submit the request. 3 attempts are provided to you to enter the correct OTP. If OTP is not received, use the Resend OTP option.
A message will be delivered to your mobile number and/or e mail address for successful registration and you will be registered for the State Bank Buddy app.
How to Add Money in SBI Buddy?
As it is a prepaid wallet, you have to add money to the wallet before using it for any transaction or money wallet. There are two ways to add money to the wallet.
Add money through Net Banking – when you want to add money through bank account using net banking, you will have to authenticate yourself by entering the INB (internet banking) login credentials. You have to select the payment option from the list for net banking provided. Then select the bank name from the drop down list options and you will be redirected to the bank’s internet banking login page. You have to authenticate yourself by providing your ID and password and complete the transaction.
Adding money through Debit Card – On Add Money screen of the State Bank buddy app, you have to select the payment option of debit card from the list provided. You will be then prompted to fill the debit card details like card number, card expiry, CVV, name on the card and OTP (generated and sent by the bank or organization that has issued the card).

How to send money through the app?
The funds can be transferred to anyone through your mobile wallet who may or may not be having a bank account. To send money, you have to hit the send money option from the dash board in the app and you will be directed to enter the following fields-
- Recipient’s mobile number or email id
- Payment Method (it would be mwallet)
There are two types of recipients:
Registered recipient – They are those who already have a SB Buddy wallet. You can select their names from favorites or simply type their name.
Non-registered recipient – They are those who are not registered for the Buddy wallet. For such recipients, the mobile number or email id or social network id can be selected from drop down matches or entered directly.
A pass code is sent to the sender of the money separately. The sender has to share this pass code separately with the recipient to enable him to retrieve the money.
The nonregistered recipients need to download the app and register themselves to the Buddy wallet to claim the money.
