In recent budget speech, Finance Minister indicated that the returns from Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is tax free. Obviously, parents are rushing to open account of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana to post office and banks. In this article, I would provide details about how to open Sukanya Samriddhi Account / Yojana at post offices and banks. How to open Sukanya Samriddhi Account / Yojana account in post offices and banks?
While Govt. of India has announced more than 45 days back, application forms to open Sukanya Samriddhi Yojna account is still not available at post offices and banks. Recently post office has updated their website with Sukanya Samriddhi details, however, still the application form is not yet available. However govt. of India under its circular has provided relevant guidelines and application form. This was uploaded on post office website.

How to open Sukanya Samriddhi Account / Yojana account in post offices and banks?
Currently only post offices are accepting to open Sukanya Samriddhi Account. Here is the process.
- You can download Sukanya Samriddhi circular + application form here or approach post office for application form
- Fill the application form
- Carry Aadhar card copies + photographs of parents and girl child.
- You can carry cash to make your first deposit. I am not sure whether Post Office would be accepting cheque for your first deposit.
- You would be given passbook to operate the account.
In which banks, we can open account for Sukanya Samriddhi Account / Yojana?
You can open Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana account at major Public Sector Banks (PSU) listed below. However, they are yet to gear up their systems to open this account. I feel it may take another couple of weeks by the time PSU Banks would be ready with this.
