Edelweiss has launched a CritiCare+ insurance product which covers 17 Critical Illness. Edelweiss Tokio Life CritiCare+ is a non participating and non linked critical illness plan. What are the features of Edelweiss Tokio Life CritiCare+ insurance plan? What are the positive factors and limiting factors of this Critical insurance plan?

  • Edelweiss Tokio Life CritiCare+ covers 17 Critical Illnesses.
  • Lumpsum benefit would be paid to the life insured in case diagnosed with any of the 17 Critical illness,.
  • Insurance plan is available in two options viz. single claim option and multi claim option.
  • Under multi claim option, you can claim upto 3 times during the policy term.
  • Future premiums are waived off in case any of the Critical Illness is diagnosed and confirmed through medical reports or certified through a medical practitioner. This is the unique feature of Edelweiss Tokio Criticare+ insurance.
  • Tax benefits available for premiums paid and for the claim amount.
  • In case of high sum assured, you would get discounts on premium.

What are the benefits under this plan?


Below are the benefits of Edelweiss Tokio Criticare+.

a) Single claim option: A lump sum equal to sum assured would be payable for life insured on survival after 28 days following the confirmation of diagnosis of Critical Ilness. The policy gets terminated after this.

b) Multi claim option: The life insured would get benefits up to 3 claims. Life insured can claim Critical Illness benefit only once from one group. E.g. if life insured diagnosed with Cancer of Specified Severity (Group-3), he can claim only once under Group-3. For 2nd and 3rd claim he can claim for Critical Illness under Group-1, Group-2 and Group-4. 

c) There are no benefits available in on death or at maturity of the policy.

What are the exclusions under this insurance plan?


  • Critical illness or its signs or symptoms occurred within 90 days of policy issue date. In case of revival of policy, it would start from such revived policy date.
  • Pre-existing disease coverage and health conditions at proposal stage would be covered after 48 months from policy commencement date.
  • The existence of any sexually Transmitted Disease / AIDS / HIV.
  • Self-inflicted injuries, attempted suicide etc.

Limitations of Edelweiss Tokio Life – CritiCare+


  • Premiums are can change beyond 5 years. Edelweiss Tokio Life can review them after 5 years and can charge extra (if any) after approval from IRDA.
  • The initial waiting period is 90 days. Means Critical Illness should occur after 90 days from the policy date.
  • Under a multi – option of Edelweiss Tokio Life Criticare+, waiting period between the claims should be 365 days. Means once first claim is made, you cannot claim for another Critical Illness till 1 year is completed.
  • There is survival period clause where life insured should survive atleast 28 days after the Critical Illness is confirmed through medical tests or certified by medical practioner. In case life insured dies before 28 days, no claim would be paid.
